Lymm……………………43 Sheffield Tigers….24
LYMM managed to recover from their humbling at the hands of Leeds Tykes last week to put on an impressive 14-man display against Sheffield Tigers.
With confidence depleted after the Leeds defeat, Lymm fans would no doubt have been fearing the worst after the Tigers' hooker, Louis Townsend crashed over for two early tries.
The hosts settled into the game, though, and struck back with a nerve-settling try of their own after 12 minutes. Lymm quickly took control and were able to apply plenty of scoreboard pressure, scoring a further four tries before the break, including a powerful penalty try after they put Sheffield under pressure with their maul. Scrum-half Callum Morris kept the pace of the game high, causing chaos for the visitors, while his fellow half-back Jack Reynolds kept the scoreboard ticking with a superb performance off the tee.
The second half was a back-and-forth encounter and the Tigers will rue several attempted offloads that didn't go to hand. Centre Barney Goatley ensured his side headed back to Sheffield with a bonus point after scoring two powerful efforts from close range. The comeback never truly looked on though, as Lymm No.8 Oliver Higginson's score put the game to bed and secured a deserved win for his side.
