Care confirmed as new Harlequins captain

Danny Care has been announced as new captain for the upcoming Premiership season taking the reins from Joe Marler.
The scrum-half has won 50 caps for England and is one of a senior core of internationals at The Stoop including vice-captain Nick Evans, prop Marler and England skipper Chris Robshaw.
Since his move from Yorkshire Carnegie [then Leeds Tykes] in 2006, Care has been Quins’ first-choice No.9, playing 187 times including in the clubs Premiership-winning season in 2012 and Amlin Cup success in 2011.
Care will lead a new-look Harlequins side in this year’s Premiership and after a last season’s disappointments. Recent signings include Wales’ internationals Jamie Roberts and Adam Jones as well as Scottish wing Tim Visser and former Wallabies captain James Horwill.
Care, 28, said: “I was incredibly proud and honoured when Conor asked me to lead the Club. Since I moved to Quins nine years ago it has felt like home and I want to repay that by doing the role justice.”
Director of Rugby Conor O’Shea, said: “In making him [Care] captain we are making a statement as to how we intend to challenge for the title again. I have watched Danny grow from a boy to a man, learning lessons along the way and he is now ready to take all that and apply it in a leadership role.”
