Wharfedale………….. 9 Sheffield Tigers………….. 10
With both sides comfortably safe from relegation in mid-table, this should have been a game of free-flowing exciting rugby. It was anything but.
They were both guilty of far too many handling errors for the match to ever be entertaining.
Tigers probably edged the result with the only try of the game, while Mark Ireland missed three penalties to give them a cushion.
Tigers’ Director of Rugby, Jamie Broadley, said after the game: “I would struggle to say that the best side won, as on that performance 0-0 would have been a fair result.
“It was probably the most ill-disciplined and error-strewn games that both sides have played all year. I was pleased that we came out on the right side of the scoreline.”
Rob Baldwin completed his 300th start for Wharfedale and commented: “It was a tough one to take. We stayed in the fight but we made too many mistakes. You want to be winning games, but I thoroughly enjoyed playing, especially with this group.”
Ryan Holmes scored the only try of the game for Tigers, with the other points coming from the boots of Ireland for Sheffield and Tom Davidson and Tom Mann for Wharfedale.
