BOURNEMOUTH Rugby have appointed Jeff Mostyn as Honorary Chairman to support the club and the corporate development panel.
Mostyn, below, is a highly respected figure in football, best known for leading the takeover of AFC Bournemouth in 2006 and playing a pivotal role in saving the club from liquidation. He went on to help guide its extraordinary rise from League Two to the Premier League.
Owner Matthew Barker is thrilled by the appointment, highlighting the importance of long-term stability and growth for the club who are currently top of the Regional 2 South Central league.
He said: “Having recently become sole owner of Bournemouth Rugby, it was important for me to bring stability to the club where there has not been financial security for many years. It’s my sole task and ambition to create a secure financial and sustainable base for the club. Now, with Jeff Mostyn supporting the club and the Corporate Development Panel, we have a figurehead to help us grow. Jeff is an important addition that gives us credibility and knowledge that we’ll all benefit from. I see him very much as a mentor and a partner working with him. He’s also a great guy!”
In his role, Mostyn will work closely with the leadership team, providing strategic direction and supporting the club’s ambitions both on and off the pitch.
Mostyn said: “I’d only ever been to one rugby match in my life. But as soon as I entered the Bournemouth Rugby clubhouse, I could feel the warmth that surrounded the players, the staff, executives and supporters. I felt an instant connection with everyone present.
“I had a similar feeling, when I walked through the doors of the football club all those years ago in 2006. And while my first love will always remain with football, and the Cherries, I believe I can provide some guidance of what it took to create the incredible success that we had at AFC Bournemouth and try to emulate that success with Bournemouth Rugby, in whatever form it takes.”
