WHILE singing the praises of the Black Ferns it would be remiss not to tip a hat to one of the few women to have enjoyed a World Cup win over them – Kathy Flores who died in San Francisco recently from colon cancer aged 66.
Flores, below, was a key player at No.8 in the USA’s success at the inaugural Women’s World Cup in Cardiff in 1991 – they beat New Zealand 7-0 en route to the final – but she was much more than just an inspirational player, she was a pioneer and driving force for the women’s game generally.
