Delaney expects missile Dan to strike big

flanker Dan Davis has been likened to superstar Justin Tipuric and tipped to become a future international.

TRP was the first to reveal the men from will lose highly-rated back row and former Wales U20 captain Jac Morgan to arch rivals for next season.

But Scarlets head coach Glenn Delaney has no doubt 22-year-old Davis can fill the void.

“Here's a guy who has got similar attributes to Justin and a great rugby playing ability,” Delaney said. “Dan announced himself against Racing a couple of years ago and he's still got all those attributes.

“The dynamism and energy he brings makes him a different type of player to Jac.

“I was talking to (scrum coach) Ben Franks about our opensides. He saw Dan play and went ‘Jeez, he's got something different.' His ability in the contact area is unbelievably dynamic.”

A serious of injuries to Oxford-born Davis paved the way for Morgan to shine for the Scarlets.

But Delaney is certain Davis is ready to kick on now and realise his potential. Delaney added: “I fully believe if Dan had had the opportunities Jac has had then he would have continued to play because he's a quality player.

“When we beat in my second game at the club, he pulled off this magnificent cover tackle. That stands out in my mind.

“He was like a missile going across the field. I don't think I've ever seen anything move that fast.”

The Scarlets have loaned out lock Jac Price, prop Harri O'Connor and hooker Shaun Evans to Delaney's former side while centre Joe Roberts has joined Paul Turner's Ampthill in the .

“They need to play and I'm delighted they will be getting some time on the field in the ,” Delaney said.

“The only way these guys will get better is by playing games.”
