Don’t disconnect line speed from defence

WE WANT our defenders to reduce the time and space available to the attack. To develop line speed, we often isolate it in training and break it into component parts. This can accelerate understanding and improve execution, but only if we reconnect those parts to the desired outcome and the whole defensive system.
Line speed exercises can end with plenty of speed but poor results. So, start by being clear about what you want to achieve.
1. We want to pressure the opposition attack.
2. We want to tackle them behind the gain line.
