A feature of being a firefighter is that once a blaze has been extinguished the job is done.
Diamond was the obvious appointment as Newcastle’s director of rugby at the beginning of last year when the then Falcons were struggling on and off the field, having forged a reputation for making a little go a long way.
He was used to having to make do on a relatively small budget and set about his task without complaint.
