Cleall hat-trick helps Saracens take top spot

SARACENS lead the way as the Premier 15s moves past the halfway mark in the season after an 11-try thumping of DMP Sharks.

Both sides struggled to get a foothold in the first ten minutes in freezing conditions at Durham University's Sports and Wellbeing Park.

Saracens eventually opened the scoring on 15 minutes when flanker Vicky Fleetwood burrowed over from close range. Flyhalf Holly Aitchison converted.

Beth Blacklock narrowed the gap with a penalty soon after but that would prove to be the Sharks only points of the afternoon.

Back row Poppy Cleall scored the first of her two first-half tries from close range after a driving maul was hauled down short of the Sharks line.

Blacklock's second penalty attempt for Sharks fell short and Saracens punished them with Cleall's second in similar fashion to her first.

Sharks' defence repelled a series of Saracens attacks before the bonus point try just before half time when hooker May Campbell powered over.

Saracens started the second half as they finished the first with another try from Cleall to round off her hat-trick.

Centre Chantelle Miell extended the visitors' lead after a line break from replacement Marlie Packer, before Georgia Evans, Lotte Clapp and Kelsey Clifford, debutant Alysha Corrigan, and Deborah Fleming all touched down in an emphatic win.
