Boffelli punishes error ridden England at Twickenham

' endured a dismal start to their Autumn Nations Series as Argentina secured a first victory at Twickenham since 2006 with a 30-29 win.

Player of the match Emiliano Boffelli scored 25 points as he repeatedly punished an ill-disciplined England to secure his side a famous Argentine win.

The Pumas had lost their last 10 against England but produced a dogged defensive display that rocked England and through the boot and flair of their backline, they caused major problems for the Red Roses in what proved a dark day in Jones' tenure with visits of New Zealand and to come.

Much of the talk pre kick off was around the midfield trio of Marcus Smith, and playing together for the first time, however the trio were part of an England attack that lacked imagination and underwhelmed.

Smith and Farrell both lasted the full 80 but never looked on the same page which begs the question whether the two stars are able to perform alongside one another.

The two sides will meet again in next year in the pool stages of the and Argentina showed England they'll be a dangerous proposition for Jones' side.

A clever punt in behind the England defence caused Smith to slip and after retaining their own kick, the Argentines won a penalty due to debutant Alex Coles committing a tackle off the ball.

Boffelli was on hand to step up and secured the first points of the match with a routine three.

The Pumas were penalised for offside and this time Farrell decided to take the easy three.

Argentina won a penalty at a scrum and Boffelli swiftly put the visitors ahead once more.

Ellis Genge beat his opposite man at the set piece but after England kicked to the corner, once again Argentina's defence stood tall as the Twickenham crowd increasingly grew frustrated with  a lack of fluency in attack from the home side.

The constant England pressure continued though and a kick in behind by Ben Youngs was carried back, and off the resulting scrum Joe Cokanasiga barrelled his way over the line with an impressive leg drive.

Julian Montoya produced a superb jackal to win a penalty inside the England half and Boffelli continued his accurate form from the tee.

Farrell responded with a penalty but England's ill-discipline continued as Luke Cowan-Dickie was this time ruled offside and Boffelli again punished them with another three points.

Tom Curry secured a textbook jackal and Farrell's shot at goal put the scores at 16-12 before the interval.

The Pumas backline move off a line out was too much for the England defence to deal with as Boffelli crossed in the corner for an exceptional try.

Argentina extended their lead moments later as after multiple England phases, Farrell's pass to was loose and Santiago Carreras picked up the ball and raced away untouched from halfway to score.

England were shell shocked and required a response.

Super sub Jack van Poortvliet provided just that as after only being on the pitch for a minute he sniped at the breakdown undetected and crossed for his second England try.

Van Poortvliet brought an increased pace off the bench and despite being just 21, the scrum-half looks the real deal and favourite to wear the nine jersey in 12 months time at the World Cup.

Farrell overturned the deficit with a three-pointer in front of the posts but Boffelli's boot continued to hinder England as he restored the Pumas' lead.

The goal kicking dual continued with Farrell and Boffelli continuing to trade penalties and any hopes of an England comeback were halted when Argentina's defence stood tall late on.
