MERTHYR have retained the Welsh Premiership title after yesterday’s 26-18 bonus-point victory at Bargoed.
The Ironmen knew securing maximum points at Bargoed Park would seal the deal. And tries from wing Jack Kathrens, skipper Paddy McBride, hooker Ellis Shipp and prop Rhys Lewis ensured the trophy would be staying at The Wern. Jacob Lloyd ended with three successful conversions.
The win means that, even if Merthyr were to lose their final league match convincingly at Cross Keys on Saturday, they would still pip Beddau courtesy of having scored more tries and having a better points difference than the Green & Golds.
Beddau cemented second spot as they ran riot in their final game, racking up 13 tries to win 89-5against Llangennech.
Wing James Davies bagged a hat-trick with hooker Ethan Coombes and scrum-half Lewis Jones both at the double.

Noah Davey, Adam Ashford, Cody Baker, Danny Perry, Tyler Wells and a penalty try were their other scorers. Ollie Wilde kicked 11 conversions.
Pontypridd finish third after ending with a 34-15 win over already relegated Brecon at Sardis Road to also bring up a ton of points for the season.
Bren Drew, Tommy Morgan, Dale Stuckey, Connah Hughes, Joe Miles and George Thorrington scored for Ponty. Logan Jones converted two.
Cardiff Met have been relegated along with Brecon after Narberth got the points they needed to ensure their own survival. The Otters were 24-17 victors at Llanelli Wanderers courtesy of two tries from scrum-half Lewys Gibby and one each for hooker Kyle Hamer and his replacement Tom Clarke. Jonathan Rogers added two conversions.
Former Wales Sevens international Alex Webber scored on his final appearance before retirement to help Ystrad Rhondda to victory 39-31 over Neath. Kurtis Williams, Mccauley Rowley, Keian Richards, Tom Stacey and Ben Williams also scored tries for Ystrad.
