Dixon’s try-scoring feat caps a rout

Billingham…………..53 ……….29

BILLINGHAM ran in nine tries in a highscoring clash yesterday.

Huddersfield started brightly and scored first through hooker Tom Haywood from a rolling maul. However, it was all Billingham, despite the home side going down to 13 men.

Billingham opened their account when Kieran Clark burst through two defenders, but was tackled just short of the line. Conner Foley then fed Dan Dixon who drove over.

Tight-head Clark wasn't to be held out for long when he collected the ball five metres out to barge over and score.

As the wind picked up both teams kept ball in hand more. Billingham scored further tries through Matthew Kirby, Peter Youll, Joseph Evans and a second for Dan Burns. Prop Dixon scored an impressive hat-trick from open play much to the delight of the home crowd.

Huddersfield, despite being on the wrong side of the scoreline, showed glimpses of class with Finlay Stewart scoring two superb tries and Ed Barber getting over.

The try of the game came when Peter Evans stepped two defenders, a deft chip was regathered by Burns who scored his second of the game. The win gives hope of survival to Billingham but dents the hopes of Huddersfield.
