Canterbury…………..24
Guernsey…………….. 15
CANTERBURY came from behind to beat Guernsey, with Garry Jones’s brace of tries, proving pivotal.
The hosts opened the scoring after three minutes when fly-half Frank Reynolds landed a penalty.
Guernsey retaliated with a textbook driving maul try. Hooker James Burger, who started the move, finished it off.
Although Charlie Simmonds missed the conversion, he slotted a penalty to put Guernsey five ahead.
Before the break, Jones injected a momentum-changing moment when he romped away to score. Reynolds’ successful conversion was all that separated the sides at half-time.
Guernsey caused anxiety in the home ranks, scoring early into the second half when Samuel Boyland wriggled over. Simmonds tacked on two more.
But that was to prove the catalyst for Canterbury’s comeback.
Harvey Furneaux had been on the pitch as a replacement for only nine minutes when he dotted down Canterbury’s second score. Reynolds nonchalantly kicked Canterbury ahead again, and this time they built on the score, with Jones claiming his second try of the day to seal Canterbury’s win.
