Worthing………..29
Westcombe P..26
THREE turned out lucky for Worthing as Thomas Derrick struck at the death.
William Gearing-Grief opened the scoring with a catch and drive. Derrick failed to convert, his only miss of the afternoon.
Worthing’s pressure continued, Thomas Bowen bookending a move ending on the left wing. Louis Ellis converted to give the hosts their biggest lead.
Nicholas Cook scored from a scrum to deliver a try on a plate for Taine Wagstaff. Nathan Wyman converted just before half-time.
Combe took the initiative. Matthew Harrison and Elliot Roofe found the tryline ten minutes apart, both from catch-and-drive moves. Wyman could only convert one.
If the first half left a little to desire, the last quarter made up in abundance. Ben Featherstone finished a cross field play which Derrick converted. The expansive rugby continued, a quick Combe exchange set Kieran Thompson clear to crash under the posts. Wyman added the extras again.
Worthing’s wave of attacks submerged Combe, Bowen once more crashing ashore. Derrick overcame a horrible angle to tie the game. He then connected with the final penalty kick to win the match for Worthing.
