CANTERBURY returned to winning ways against Barnes.

The start for Canterbury was exciting but error-strewn and didn't deliver any points. Instead it was Barnes who delivered the first scores.

The visitors' first try came from persistent pressure on both sides of the ball. Canterbury made a turnover but an overly ambitious exit saw them scrape a kick to just outside the 22. From here Barnes went about their business and Weightman crashed over.

The second Barnes try came again through close quarters grinding. After a series of pick and goes. Bloxman vaulted the ruck to flop over the line.

Canterbury came out to play in the second half. This time though they brought the clinical edge with them.

The Foxes built the pressure in the 22 and showed great patience to create an opportunity for Dwayne Corcoran. A floated pass by Herriot enabled Dwayne to skip past the defence.

Dave Irvine crowned his his home debut with a try, the lock forward charging a box kick down and regathering to blast over.

The Foxes never looked under pressure for the rest of the second half.

Entering the final minutes. Canterbury made a break down the right wing. Kicking ahead from the break. Barnes didn't gather cleanly, resulting in a 5m scrum to the Foxes and a dominant scrum saw Barnes going backwards and conceding a penalty try to finish the scoring.
