Pete Ryan: Welsh youngster Josh Carrington is one to watch for Bristol Bears

The league boasts many strong institutions, yet Met remained a consistent force throughout. A player who has stood out this year for the side is Josh Carrington.

The versatile fullback has made an enormous impact at the Cyncoed Campus. His performances haven’t gone unnoticed.

A few weeks ago, the Bears snapped the Welshman up. There is no doubt Carrington has the potential to do remarkable things in rugby.

Carrington has always been a player to keep an eye on.

There are many exciting players coming through in Wales at the moment, and Carrington is definitely one of them.

It all started at Morriston RFC, his boyhood club. This is where he stepped onto the hallowed turf of the Principality Stadium.

The village club have had many internationals grace their clubhouse. The likes of Ross Moriarty, Tom Deacon, and Bob Thomas have all gone on the achieve great things. Carrington will look to follow in their footsteps.

 The fullback was a part of the Ospreys academy, and ran out as part of an Ospreys A.

In a team stack with future talent such as Joe Hawkins, Dan Edwards, and Harri Deaves, they took on A at the Gnoll.

Carrington has also represented his nation at age-grade level. He took on at U18s level, as well as taking on Wales U20s.

The 23-year-old pulled on the Welsh Academies U23s jersey under the lights of Rodney Parade. A stage for rising talent.

It is no wonder that Carrington has produced at a prominent level for Cardiff Met, when looking at his experiences.

Producing at an elevated level

Carrington and Cardiff Met are going off a strong season in the league, where they reached the semi-.

As stated before, Carrington was a vital part of the side, scoring four tries in Wednesday night action, yet he also made showings in the Welsh Premiership.

Graceful in movement, lethal on the counter, and fearless in the air, his game is a blend of agility and instinct. Carrington knows how to make a high impact in broken play.

The fullback now knows how to leave the opposition in his wake and will now be hoping to bring that form across the Severn to Bristol.

Joining an exciting group

It would be hard to find a more entertaining team in than the .

‘s side knows how to play an attractive brand of rugby that can entertain the masses. Carrington’s style should suit the Bears to a tee.

It must be a fantastic environment to learn in, as they know how to win.

He will now join Welsh quartet, Louie Trevett, Sam Scott, Kenzie Jenkins, and Aidan Boshoff.

After making a debut against the Queensland Reds, he would be looking to build on that next year.

Whether his path leads through Bristol or far beyond, Carrington’s next chapter is one filled with ambition and possibility.
