Edinburgh………9
Munster………10
MUNSTER went top of the PRO12 table with a onepoint win over Edinburgh.
The Scots were playing their first league match of the season at their new Myreside home on Friday but couldn’t celebrate the move from Murrayfield as Ronan O’Mahony scored the only try of the game for Munster and Tyler Bleyendaal kicked five points.
The Scots could only muster three penalties from Jason Tovey while Blair Kinghorn’s last-gasp penalty effort fell short from 51 metres.
Bleyendaal said: “We know we made a lot of errors but we stuck to our guns and we knew Edinburgh would play right up until the 80th minute because they are a fit side.”
Edinburgh went ahead with Tovey’s first penalty but then fell behind after sustained pressure from Munster saw Bleyendaal find O’Mahony with an inside pass to score.
Munster scrum-half Williams got binned for a deliberate knock-on 25 minutes and while he was away Tovey put over two kicks to bring it to 9-7.
That’s how it stayed until half time and Bleyendaal’s penalty to edge Munster in front 12 minutes from time turned out to be the only score as Kinghorn’s late effort fell short.
Edinburgh acting head coach Duncan Hodge said: “We had chances to win and really, we’ve slit our own throats in terms of some of the turnovers we gave them. Then it was down to a simple three points with 12 minutes left.”
