Dastardly French TV directors have been quietly controlling big games in France for a couple of decades now so in one way I don’t really get the furore over last week’s Champions Cup semi-final between Bordeaux and Bath. Same old, same old.
In a hectic game, possible foul play by the opposition gets put up on the live feed and big screen ad infinitum, the home crowd kicks up merry hell and the referee eventually feels compelled to examine further.
Ditto visiting tries with even the hint of a forward pass, knock on, offside etc. Nothing is finalised until the French director says so.
