Toyota’s star imports Michael Hooper and Kieran Read back Japan to be world leader

MICHAEL Hooper and Kieran Read have backed Japan to become the next major player in world rugby, as the Top League draws comparisons with the IPL.
Unlike countrymen Kurtley Beale (Australia/Racing92) or Jerome Kaino (New Zealand/Toulouse), the two spurned moves to France in favour of Japan to link up at Toyota Verblitz.
It is hard to envisage any other league in the world being able to recruit the current Wallabies captain and former All Blacks skipper to the same team, and the same back row. But that is indicative of the Top League's growing reach across distant seas.
