HAVING just read the first round results of local league action it pains me to see that some teams are unable to fulfil their fixtures for whatever reasons. Is this the sign of modern times? People do not want to play or clubs cannot afford to run multiple sides.
Back in my days before Leagues, clubs ran four, five or even six sides and the whole club would play another club’s multiple sides.
Do other oldies like me have the same feeling? Will this stop the development of junior teams if, when they reach 18 years of age and the club runs only two sides, what progress can they make?...
