Exclusive: Duhan van der Merwe hits six-figure jackpot with Premiership club

The South African-born Edinburgh star made his debut for his adopted country only in October and will head to Sixways this summer.

Van der Merwe, 25, qualified for Scotland under the threeyear residency rule after a stint in France playing for Montpellier after starting his career in South Africa with the Blue Bulls.

Edinburgh boss Richard Cockerill signed the former Springbok U20 international, who is of Dutch descent, in 2017 despite Van der Merwe failing a medical on a hip injury.

He has however repaid his faith by averaging a try in every other game, was named PRO14 Player of the Year last season and has scored three tries in his five international appearances.

The 6ft 4in strike runner extended his contract with Edinburgh in January, but the Warriors have been successful in luring him to Sixways next season.

Van der Merwe will join his former Edinburgh teammate Duncan Weir at Worcester. Weir made the same move in April 2018 on an initial one-year deal which he has since extended.
