The telecommunications giant made the announcement today at the launch of their BT Sport channels.
BT brought the television rights for £152m over four years back in September and they will broadcast 69 live games as well as the French Top14 and the JP Morgan Premiership .
But the way it was going to be delivered and how much it would cost the rugby fans was unclear, until today.
Existing BT Broadband customers will have access to the three BT Sport channels, one of them being ESPN, free of charge but a £3 per month charge will occur for the High Definition coverage – provided their receive fibre broadband. However this charge will be waived for a year if they signed up before August 1.
Sky TV customers will also be given the opportunity to watch the English national competition in HD for £15 per month on top of their Sky TV deal or £12 per month for the standard definition.
However, no deal has yet been signed to deliver the BT Sport channels to Virgin Media customers.
BT Sport head Simon Green also confirmed their rugby coverage will be three live Premiership games per round – Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday afternoons – a weekly Rugby Club-style program and potentially a Match of the Day type program on Saturday of Sunday evening.
Former captain Lawrence Dallaglio will be the face of BT Sport rugby coverage and he has been joined in the Rugby Experts team by winners Matt Dawson, Ben Kay and Austin Healey and Martin Bayfield.
