Luke Cowan-Dickie raised his bat for his 50th England cap yesterday and admitted he had got there the hard way – 10 years after his debut.

The Sale hooker first got capped in a World Cup warm-up game against France, in the same series that Jamie George, below, won his first cap, but has played fewer than half the number of Tests his rival has.
Cowan-Dickie battled serious nerve damage in his shoulder and bicep to make his latest return to rugby 18 months ago.
He has also overcome a heart rhythm problem and neck problems to make the milestone, frequently playing through the pain barrier.
