Byron McGuigan is in talks to become the newest member of Steve Borthwick’s England coaching set-up.
The RFU are in discussion with Sale Sharks boss Alex Sanderson to bring in the 36-year-old coach.
McGuigan enjoyed a successful summer on secondment for the tour of Argentina and the United States, working alongside Joe El-Abd on defence.
Borthwick has since reshuffled his staff, with senior assistant coach Richard Wigglesworth taking on defence.

Lee Blackett was recruited from Prem champions Bath to oversee attack and El-Abd to look after the forwards.
