AUBREY Gale belonged to a rare breed, those never granted national recognition despite their rare achievements, in his case for Llanelli against Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.
On each of those occasions in the crucible of Stradey Park, Gale occupied positions in every row of the Scarlets’ pack: lock against the Wallabies in 1957, No.8 against the Springboks in 1960, prop against the All Blacks on December 31, 1963.
