Setting up for a super centenary

AMERSHAM & Chiltern have just finished one of the best seasons in the club's history, with the first, seconds, col ts and juniors all enjoying successful campaigns before next year's centenary.

The firsts finished top of Regional 2 Thames, winning 16 of their 20 games to earn promotion to level 5, while the seconds and colts also won their leagues to gain promotion.

The U14s, U15s and U16s won all of their Bucks Cup competitions, while the minis secured the Trophy at the Tring Festival, plus the Cup and Shield at the Tigers Challenge Tour in Bognor Regis.

Director of rugby Pete Gibson was thrilled with the first team's achievements, and believes they're back to where they belong in the pyramid.

He told The Rugby Paper: “It's been a lot of fun, ticking all the boxes on the way to what we're trying to achieve. We were playing level 5 a few years ago but fell away and dropped a few leagues. It's nice to have a plan and resurrect that. Amersham & Chiltern should be playing level 5 rugby, we feel that's our level, so we're pleased.

“We've created an environment where guys are genuine amateur players coming through the system. We've got Jordan Scott our No8 who is the highest try scorer in all of the RFU's leagues. He's on 33 tries for this year and is our player of the year. There's a mix of nationalities from all over the world in our backline; we've got a Serbian, Jamaican, a real mixed bag.”

Gibson added: “Our seconds won their OBB league after dropping down last year.

“We've set up a system with our colts that players from the first team go down and coach them. That allows us to naturally bring in what we have in the first team in terms of calls, systems into the colts and they've thrived upon that.”
