HAWICK winger Morgan Tait dashed between two Tynedale defenders to score his second try in the final play, completing a classy second-half showing by the Scottish Premiership champions.

No.8 Jae Linton also scored a brace, with tighthead Nicky Little, fullback Charlie Welsh, and backrow Stuart Graham all getting on the scoresheet as the Green’s showed a mix of clinical finishing and superior fitness to delight the Mansfield Park faithful.

After an opening five minutes which could best be described as a pre-season comedy of errors, Hawick put together several phases and a two-onone allowed outside centre Andrew Mitchell to open up Linton, the 24-year-old sweeping around Tynedale prop Ben Haigh to score right of the posts.

The National 2 North side took the lead on the half-hour mark, winger Rory Cramb with plenty of space to break Hawick’s line and dot down by the left post.

Hawick came within a whisker of scoring several times before their phaseplay allowed scrum-half Deaglan Lightfoot to spot Little in acres of space to saunter over and give the Greens a half-time lead.

Two tries in three minutes either side of the hour-mark, Welsh in the corner from a quick scrum ball, and then Tait on the other flank, was decisive.
