Denstone lay down marker for National Sevens

THE Schools Cup Final takes place on Thursday as reigning champions Trinity face Oakham at Twickenham.

After beating Finborough in the semi-final, Oakham have set up the chance to complete a perfect season and win their first title in 20 years.

However, Trinity will provide a stern test with the champions showcasing their impressive defensive capabilities in their semi-final win over Blundell's last week.

Old Swinford Hospital and Samuel Whitbread academy begin proceedings at Twickenham in the Vase final.

On the scene, Denstone College won the Solihull 7s on Wednesday to lay down a key marker ahead of the upcoming tournament.

Denstone cruised through the group stages conceding just one try in their opening three games whilst piling on 108 points in the process.

After breezing through their quarter-final, they recorded another impressive win against threetime champions Warwick to set up a clash with the Solihull in the final.

The theme of tireless defence continued for Denstone as they were crowned champions after an imposing 24-5 victory.

With many of the strongest schools in the region attending, Denstone's unbeaten run in the tournament sets them in great stead for the rest of the 7s season.

This weekend another two important 7s competitions with many of the UK's top schools looking to hit their straps.

The West of 7s features a strong 16-team lineup in the boy's competition whilst it will also be the first year of the girl's tournament with eight schools involved.

College, Millfield and Blundell's will all be hoping to build on their strong starts to the 7s season whilst Glantaf are going to back-to-back wins in the competition.

On Sunday, Oakham, Ipswich and Bromsgrove headline a strong tenteam lineup at Rutland school.
