Losing South African sides makes sense

THE news that the two South African teams are unlikely to play in the PRO14 next season could well be a blessing in disguise.
Given the uncertainty surrounding the current pandemic, the last thing players need is to be travelling long distances and into areas where the infection rate is high.
The Eastern Cape, where the Southern Kings play, has experienced real difficulties, while the Free State region, where the Cheetahs play, has experienced more than 500 Covid deaths. At this time it simply isn’t worth the risk.
