ENGLAND Counties had to resist a late fightback from Spain to end their tour undefeated last Monday.
Jack Preece got England off to a strong start scoring after just four minutes and they soon had their second as Albert Portsmouth showed impressive footwork to score.
Spain responded with a try of their own but England remained on top with Rhys Hayes going over and Portsmouth dotting down for his second.
The scoreline looked set to remain locked at 26-7 at the break until a moment of magic from Robin Wedlake, who stepped three players to touch down. Matt Shepherd once again converted making it 33-7 to the visitors at half time.
Spain mounted a spirited comeback in the second half with two converted tries which brought them back to 33-21 with 20 minutes left to play.
Some sublime handling set up Counties replacement Max Trimble to score in the corner and widen the gap for the visitors, but Spain once again responded with a rampaging try from replacement Kalokalo Gavidi.
That was the last time they would break the English defence though and a late try from Harry Bate made the win certain for the Counties.
