Worcester have suffered their second dramatic defeat in as many weeks against Biarritz in the Amlin Challenge Cup.
Despite playing with a one-man advantage for the last 30 minutes and having a ten-point lead, the Warriors went down 33-25 at the Parc des Sports Aguilera.
Scrum-half Yann Lesgourgues crossed the line twice in the first half for the French but eight points from the boot of Ignacio Mieres and a try after 19 seconds from Jeremy Su’a put Worcester 13-12 in front at the interval.
Max Stelling extended the lead for Dean Ryan’s men before loosehead Thomas Synaeghel received a second yellow card for repeated infringements at the scrum.
Paul Warwick made it 25-15 but that was it for the Warriors as Biarritz unleashed flyer Teddy Thomas who grabbed a brace to complete a stunning comeback.
The French side also claimed the try bonus-point which keeps the pressure on Sale who face Oyonnax at the AJ Bell tomorrow night.
Up North in Bordeaux, the Dragons went down 32-13 despite a try from Wales No.8 Toby Faletau.
Nineteen first-half points from fly-half Nicolas Sanchez answered Faletau’s try to edge the French 19-13 in front at the break but further tries from Robert Lilomaiva and Jefferson Poirot sealed the deal for Raphael Ibanez’s side.
