Nine-game ban for Richard Cockerill

Richard Cockerill has been banned for nine games for using ‘obscene and inappropriate' language towards the fourth official in the last final.
The director of rugby pleaded not guilty to the offence but the panel found that Cockerill used words that were obscene, inappropriate and unprofessional and behaviour that was inappropriate and unprofessional.
Cockerill's rant was sparked after his playmaker and captain Toby Flood was left concussed and had to leave the field mid-way through the first half following a late tackle from Courtney Lawes.
He will be suspended from involvement in match day coaching activities, before during and after matches, from September 7 to November 2 2013.

  1. What’s astonishing is if you watch the footage back, Flood’s concussion came from a collision with Dan Cole’s knee (his own player) and not from Lawes’ only ever so slightly (so he was committed) late tackle. So it’s even worse that he can stand there and argue against it rudely to the officials.

  2. Beans. You’re forgetting that the ref gave a penalty (rightly or wrongly is a moot point) for the Lawes tackle. If a serious injury occurs from an illegal tackle a DOR is well within his rights to question an official. Cockers only lost it when it became clear no action was even being considered in addition to the penalty, not even a look at the video replay. The ref should’ve gone directly to the video and cleared the matter up there and then.
