The Most Anticipated Football Matches in Azerbaijan

Recap of

Azerbaijani football faces an unusual autumn. Sabah is entering the Champions League league phase for the first time; the national team has four matches packed into late September and early October, and the domestic championship continues around both schedules.

Sabah Opens Its Campaign at Old Trafford

Sabah starts the Champions League league phase against Manchester United on 10 September, three years after its European debut in 2023/24. The current competition has 36 clubs, each playing eight different opponents rather than meeting three teams twice in a group. Ahead of those matchdays, Melbet AZ carries football betting for scheduled and live games alongside scores and match information, bringing Sabah’s European fixtures and other competitions into one sports section.

The draw gave Sabah a demanding first campaign. After Manchester United came Slavia Praha, Borussia Dortmund, Viking, Barcelona, Villarreal, Napoli and Arsenal. The program runs until 27 January.

Several dates stand out:

  • 10 September: Manchester United vs Sabah;
  • 20 October: Sabah vs Borussia Dortmund;
  • 25 November: Sabah vs Barcelona;
  • 20 January: Sabah vs Napoli;
  • 27 January: Arsenal vs Sabah.

Sabah first entered UEFA competition in the 2023/24 Conference League. That campaign ended against Partizan after a penalty shootout. Three seasons later, the club has Old Trafford as its first Champions League league-phase stop.

Eight European Matches Change the Weekly Routine

The calendar is spread across five months and several countries. England, Norway and Spain are among Sabah’s away destinations, while opponents from the Czech Republic, Germany, Spain and Italy travel to Azerbaijan. For matchdays away from home, Melbet APK provides mobile access to the betting service, including its sports section and live football markets, without making the match schedule dependent on a desktop session.

There is no steady rhythm to the European program. More than a month separates the Manchester United and Slavia Praha games, yet Dortmund follows only seven days after Slavia. Sabah must fit those dates around the Azerbaijani championship.

Dortmund and Barcelona Are the Major Home Dates

Borussia Dortmund visits Sabah on 20 October. Barcelona follows on 25 November, giving the club two home games against former European champions within little more than a month.

Barcelona arrives for Matchday 5. By then, four results will already count toward Sabah’s position in the 36-team table, where the top eight qualify directly for the round of 16, and teams placed ninth to 24th enter the knockout phase play-offs.

Azerbaijan Has Four International Dates Close Together

The national side takes over the calendar shortly after Sabah’s opening European match. Azerbaijan hosts Tajikistan on 23 September before traveling to Lithuania four days later.

October begins quickly:

  1. Azerbaijan vs Tajikistan — 23 September;
  2. Lithuania vs Azerbaijan — 27 September;
  3. Azerbaijan vs Liechtenstein — 1 October;
  4. Azerbaijan vs Lithuania — 4 October.

The Tajikistan game is a friendly, while the following fixtures belong to the UEFA Nations League program. Four matches inside 12 days make this a concentrated international spell rather than a brief break between club weekends.

The Premier League Does Not Stop for Europe

Sabah’s European run comes on top of the Misli Premier League schedule. Domestic opponents present a different problem from Manchester United or Barcelona: points dropped after a UEFA match count exactly the same as those lost during a quieter week.

The meeting with Qarabağ is especially notable. Qarabağ has provided Azerbaijan’s strongest European record in recent seasons, while Sabah is now experiencing the Champions League league phase for the first time.

Napoli and Arsenal Close the League Phase

After Villarreal in December, Sabah has several weeks before its final two European matches. Napoli comes to Azerbaijan on 20 January, followed by an away game against Arsenal on 27 January.

Those dates may still carry qualification consequences. The Champions League table is decided after eight rounds, and the final matchday is played simultaneously across the competition. Sabah may therefore arrive in London with play-off positioning or its final place unresolved.

For Azerbaijan, the coming months are defined by several distinct fixtures rather than one headline game. Manchester United opens Sabah’s campaign, Dortmund and Barcelona visit later in the year, the national side has its own compact autumn program, and January brings Napoli and Arsenal.
