Premiership Rugby is alive and well in England, with 11 teams deep into the 2022-2023 competition already. After ten rounds, it is Saracens who look like the team to beat, having played nine matches without yet being defeated. Saracens Keep Record Alive With Last Gasp Win Over Northampton
Saracens nearly didn't make it through their first nine matches undefeated.
Playing Northampton at home, Saracens trailed their opponents by 39-17 with only 20 minutes remaining on the clock. In rugby, teams don't typically score 28 points in the last quarter, when they've failed to do so in the first hour. However, that's exactly what Saracens did.
After a lacklustre opening 60 minutes where Saracens looked nothing like their previous games and struggled with injuries, several yellow cards against Northampton kicked the team into life. Within the space of two minutes, while Salakaia-Loto was in the sin bin, two Saracens replacements scored, with Simpson and Hallett both dotting down. Ten minutes later, and still trailing by more than two scores, captain Earl crossed over, before Daly put the icing on the cake with two minutes to spare.
After looking like their unbeaten streak was done, Saracens have shown Premiership Rugby why they sit atop of its ladder right now.
Can Any Team Stop Saracens This Season?
The Saracens' unbeaten streak and 15 point lead atop the ladder begs the question: Can they be stopped this year?
Interestingly, despite the Saracens going unbeaten in Premiership Rugby, they have lost their last three Premiership Rugby Cup matches. Admittedly, this is a higher level, but it shows that Saracens are not invincible. Add to this the fact that of Saracens' nine wins this year, five have been by less than a try, and it's clear that while Saracens have been having an incredible season, they aren't as far ahead of the rest of the pack as it may appear.
