2019 champs: Saracens’ Lotte Clapp with the trophy

WITH women’s rugby expanding rapidly in popularity and expectation, the ten-team Premier 15s, initially sponsored by Tyrells and now by Allianz, was launched in September 2017 to provide a club platform for England’s elite women.
The Premier 15s built on the already well established Women’s Premiership which had been running since 2002 and that, in turn, was based on a prototype competition which had been in place since 1990 when universities made up the bulk of the teams.
