Top, but Richards sees only Exeter

DEAN RICHARDS glossed over the fact his team had gone top of the table – for 24 hours at least, knowing full well that away will present an altogether different challenge next Saturday.

“We're not the type of side that says we want to finish as European champions or champions. What we do is look at each game and how we can win it,” he said.

“We have 17 games left and if we are there (at the top) at the end of the season I will be absolutely delighted. It will be a City scenario because we haven't quite got the strength in depth that a lot of these other boys have, but we will see how we get on.

“Next week's a difficult game for us. It is not a place we have had much success over the last four or five years. If we play like we did in the second half against Irish, we'll get thumped.”

Opposite number Nick Kennedy bemoaned the defensive frailties that caused their first half collapse. “That's the fourth time in a row we haven't started well. Missed oneon- one tackles cost us tries.”
