completed a fourth successive triumph in the 1872 Cup as they ground out a derby win over Edinburgh at Murrayfield, sealing the trophy 45–15 on aggregate.

In a scrappy, attritional contest played in front of a crowd of 38,179 – the second-largest attendance in the history of the fixture – Glasgow again proved more clinical, even if fluency was in short supply for long stretches.

Glasgow head coach Franco Smith said: “The boys have had enough time to get away with families. Good to get the result but also disappointed – it would have been good to get a bonus point.

“This is a derby. The opposition are always going to come out with their heart on their sleeve. They defended well, but it’s about trust. We worked hard.”

Jamie Dobie scored twice and was the star of the show for Glasgow. Smith added: “I always like another -half on the wing. Two ball players on the edges and up the tempo a bit. Jamie is a good player and good players find a spot. Hopefully he can continue to progress because I think he can play for in that role as well.”

Dobie said: “It was really tough, a really physical game. Massive for the league and to get nine points out of these two games and win the cup is great for the club.”

Edinburgh made the brighter start and were rewarded when Cammy Scott slotted an early penalty to give the hosts a 3-0 lead. The opening quarter was dominated by breakdown skirmishes, handling errors and frequent stoppages, with neither side able to build sustained momentum.

After winning a penalty and kicking to the corner, Adam Hastings produced a moment of class, stepping back inside and threading a perfectly weighted kick to the right wing. Jamie Dobie gathered and finished smartly in the corner, with Hastings adding the conversion to give the visitors a 7–3 half-time lead.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Edinburgh struggling to generate attacking threat despite territorial pressure.

The visitors’ control told in the quarter. George Horne sniped from close range after sustained pressure, converting his own try to stretch the lead. Two minutes later, Dobie capped a fine individual performance with his second, chasing down a kick into space to seal the win.

Glasgow captain Kyle Steyn added: “Our forwards put in one hell of a shift. Proud of the boys – both weeks we had what it takes.”
