Poole’s late intervention helps Hull make splash

ZAK Poole's late try helped fire into third place as they leapfrogged Lymm with a 20-13 away win in the Northern Division.

Following a Hull penalty by Steve Johnson, Lymm took the lead with a Cormack Nolan penalty and an Andy Davis try.

Hull levelled matters at 10-10 through a Joe Stafford try, converted by Johnson and, although Lymm regained the lead with a Nolan penalty, a try by Poole converted by Johnson –who also slotted a late penalty – sealed the win.

Elsewhere, Kirkby Lonsdale had an away day to remember as they downed Pocklington17-10.

Alex Rogers and Stuart Storey both crossed for the visitors with David Davison the only player to cross the whitewash for the home side.

Matt Blackman's hat-trick helped Rossendale hammer Wirral 43-0 with Ryan McKibbin notching up a brace in a comfortable home victory.

In the closing stages, debutant scrum-half Harry Moulding brought up the seventh with a sniping run from the base of the scrum.

Harrogate held on to second spot, coming from behind to beat Sandal 31-39. Sandal scored tries through Greg Wood, Rod Norbury, Declan Thompson and Tom Fountain (2). Wood also on target with three conversions.

Naylor Keane, Matthew Landsall, Tim Heaton, Andy Boyd and Aaron Yorke were try scorers for visiting Harrogate.

It was an action-packed day in the South West Premier and the Midlands Premier.

In the South West, Exmouth edged it 24-21 against Newton Abbot.

Kevin Dennis touched down for the Abbot in the first five minutes, with Rob Avery-Wright converting. Tom Whelan scored two penalties for Exmouth sandwiching another Abbot try from Ollie Avery- Wright, converted again by Rob to give the away side a 14-6 half-time lead.

After the break, Whelan crossed and added the conversion before landing a penalty. Mark Walters then touched down for Exmouth.

But Jarryd Harris crossed for Abbot and the conversion by Rob Avery- Wright tied the scores.

However, with just 10 minutes left, Whelan kicked a penalty to win it for the home side.

Ivybridge comfortably beat Maidenhead 49-26 as Billy Pinkus crossed twice in the first 20 minutes.

After the break, Maidenhead scored a try in the first three minutes, before Ben Watts crossed for his brace and Billy Pinkus completed his hat-trick, Mitch Pinkus converting both.

Maidenhead then scored three tries, with one converted, before Lewis Paterson sealed the win for Ivybridge. In the Midlands, Nuneaton and Scunthorpe drew 20-20. Scunthorpe went ahead through a Tom Hughes try and Elliot Brown then converted his own try to make it 7-7.

Adie Hall crossed for Nuneaton as Robinson kicked a penalty to make it 12-10 on the stroke of half time and minutes after the restart, kicked another to edge the visitors ahead.

Ben Kirby crossed for Nuneaton and Hugh Thomas scored a penalty to make it 17-13, but in the last minute, Scunthorpe's Nick Siddall crossed, with the subsequent conversion from Robinson hitting the post and bar before bouncing over, ensuring the draw.

League leaders Birmingham and Solihull beat Bournville 17-3 to cement their spot at the top, and (Salop) comfortably beat Longton 57-31.

Bridgnorth edged Sandbach 24-23 in another tight game thanks to two first-half tries from Gareth Bladen and Brian Smeilus, with another from Llew Williams in the second half.

A late rally from Sandbach saw them come within one point of an unlikely win, but Bridgnorth were able to hold on.
