Gordon’s brace is Hawks’ highlight

Hawks…….39 ………………….26

A BRACE of tries for Lailand Gordan and 14 points off the boot of Adam Hakimian was the catalyst for Henley to put together their best perfor mance of the season.

A dominant set-piece set the tone for Henley and poor discipline from the visitors meant the Hawks were allowed plenty of territory and possession.

But it was Barnes who opened the scoring when Ethan Sikorski powered over from a driving maul.

Henley hit back right away when Gordon found space out wide to dot down. Hakimian's excellent conversion gave Henley the lead.

A Hakimian penalty extended the lead further before Jacques Birch's interception on halfway handed Barnes back the initiative.

A second try for Gordon following an excellent Leo Webb break saw the lead change hands again before a third try for Henley on the stroke of half-time from Istok Totic gave them a 24-12 advantage.

Will Benning's bonus-point try early pulled the Hawks further ahead before Barnes mounted a spirited comeback with tries from Josh Davies and Birch. However, Dave Manning sealed the contest on the stroke of full time when he crashed over from close range.
