LUCTONIANS remain at the top after a try bonanza in the Midlands, eventually subduing the irrepressible Students.

The visitors were ten points up going into the break and, at that point, the final outcome was still in the balance – before a blitz of scores in the third quarter settled matters.

Josh Watkins scooted over for Luctonians’ opener, Karl Warner replying within two minutes for Students as the game burst into life.

There was more trading of scores – Archie Kean and Watkins again the men involved – before James Nott sniped over for Lucs’ third.

After the break, they picked up exactly where they left off, James Wheeler getting in on the act out wide.

He was quickly followed over the whitewash by Connor Deignan and Lewis Parkes.

Loughborough, though, have a long-held reputation as being ‘Barbarian-esque’ in their approach and they continued to probe and move the ball at speed, which yielded further scores for replacements Lucas Eule and Oliver Fisher, as well as centre Thomas Riman.

Title-chasers Luctonians would have the final word, however, with Archie Benson strolling over late on as the game fragmented.
