Westcliff………………. 7
Esher……………………. 80
WESTCLIFF succumbed to another heavy defeat in their nightmare season, but they can take many positives from Esher’s visit.
A superbly fit and efficient Esher side were always going to prevail, but Westcliff secured their fair share of possession and could have been better rewarded for their determination and total commitment.
Esher cruised into control from the off and seven first-half tries saw them 47-0 ahead at half-time, with the scores coming from Pierre Thompson, Thomas Jones (two), David Coutts, Tareq Haffar, Dan Rowland and Chris Davies, with Sam Morley adding six conversions.
Westcliff refused to let their heads go down and the biggest cheer of the day came when Callum Lynch was able to register a try, converted by Greg Bannister.
Westcliff continued to press for further reward, but were denied by resolute Esher defence.
Further tries from Jones, Davies and Charlie Gossington, two converted by Jack Lavin, gave Esher a 66-7 advantage, which on balance would have been an acceptable margin.
However, two further converted tries at the death by Harvey Scott and Luke Peters added to the visitors’ tally.
