HENLEY Hawks scored three second-half tries to see off the determined challenge of hosts Canterbury.

Playing against the slope in the first half, Henley spent much of the first quarter attacking the Canterbury line, but stern defence thwarted them.

Nine minutes before half-time, Canterbury took the lead when right wing Guy Hilton crossed in the corner. Kyan Braithwate failed to convert.

The Hawks to turned the game around only two minutes into the second half. From a lineout, Sam Lunnan carried the ball in a powerful rolling maul and touched down, with Cain Cookland improving the score.

Fifteen minutes later, the lead was extended to nine points when Henley scored a second converted try.

It was well worked, with the ball going left for Will Panday to run behind the posts to make Cookland's conversion easy.

Back came Canterbury and they gave themselves a lifeline in the 72nd minute when Troy Oliver was the last man holding the ball as a maul moved over the line, but, again, Braithwaite could not convert.

Any hopes for a comeback were dashed three minutes from time when Panday, crossed in the corner.
