RPNS7s – U14 Boys: New generation on the way up

Millfield showed they have yet another generation ready to take the rugby world by storm.

The Somerset youngsters came through the 216-team tournament despite losing two games, but they delivered in the moments that mattered as they saved their strongest performances for knockout games in the two-day festival.

After easing through Group UU unbeaten, Millfield finished day one with one of the widest margins of victory any team managed in the ‘Elimination Round' as they trounced Mount St Mary's College 49-14.

They began day two with a narrow 21-19 loss to Whitgift, but as Whitgift had earlier been beaten by Royal Grammar School (RGS) they knew they could still progress – and did so with a 28-10 win.

In the third group stage they started with a 19-5 defeat to Rodillian Academy, but went through as the best group runners up on points scored following a 36-26 win over Hymers College.

They avenged Rodillian 36-12 in the semis, and edged St. Paul's 21-17 in a hard-fought final to take the cup, with Sedbergh edging Ipswich 19-17 to clinch the plate.
