Northampton Saints boss Phil Dowson insists it’s up to both club and country to take a long-term view when it comes to player welfare and managing workload.

Dowson insists it should not always be the clubs who ‘hold the burden’ of resting players and that the prospect of England captain Maro Itoje missing this summer’s Test series is a “step forward”.
