Spencer keeps the armband at Bath

Ben Spencer says it is “a huge privilege” to lead Bath into a second season, and is grateful to have Charlie Ewels back alongside him as a broad pair of shoulders to lean on.
Spencer stood in for Ewels as Bath captain when the lock missed the whole of last season’s Premiership campaign with a serious knee injury and has kept the armband for 2023/24.
The decision from Bath head of rugby Johann van Graan will allow Ewels to build on the small amount of game time he had on loan with the Bulls in the Currie Cup at the back-end of last season, whilst also supporting Spencer.
