Wasps could be without Alfie Barbeary for three months

ALFIE Barbeary will find out today if he faces three months out of action when he goes under the surgeon's knife for an ankle injury.

The 20-year-old Wasps back row/hooker, who has scored eight tries in his last 12 appearances, will be out for at least six weeks, but it could be as many as 12 depending on what damage is found.

Barbeary looked likely to be included in ' squad until he was injured playing against Sale at the AJ Bell Stadium last weekend.

The Banbury-born former international, who joined Wasps in 2018 before having a stint on loan at , was called into the squad for the Autumn Nations Cup final.

Barbeary, who prefers to play in the middle of the front, has been one of the standout stars of the this season despite being played out of position in the back row.

He celebrated his first start for the club with a hat-trick from flanker against Tigers in September.

He then missed out on the Premiership final defeat against Chiefs when coronavirus broke out in the Wasps camp in the build-up.
