PONTYPRIDD delivered a determined performance to see off in-form Llanelli. Llanelli broke the deadlock through Iwan Evans’ penalty but that was their sole first-half score.
Two Diggy Bird penalties were interspersed by a corner flag touchdown scored by winger Alex Webber after the ball was shipped along the back line, the try expertly converted by Bird, giving Ponty a deserved 13-3 interval lead.
A hard rain fell after the break, with Llanelli being penalised as their hooker Taylor Davies was yellow carded.
