Spencer’s reckless tackle did deserve red card

WILL Spencer’s shoulder to the jaw of Wasps hooker Tommy Taylor was high, dangerous, and merited the one month suspension handed out this week to the Leicester lock by an RFU disciplinary panel.
Last season I defended a Gaby Lovobalavu cover tackle in which he made glancing head contact with Sam Hill after the Exeter centre dipped low into the contact at the last second, and argued that incidents should be treated on a case by case basis rather than blanket bans for any head contact.
