Scarlets have signed two young forwards as they look to bolster their options in the pack ahead of the new URC season.
Back row Iwan Shenton, 22, was the skipper of Cardiff Met University and has played for Aberavon in the Welsh Premiership, whilst second row Griff Evans, 21, will continue to play for Llandovery in the same league on a dual contract, and has played for neighbours of Met, Cardiff University.
Both universities play in BUCS Super Rugby, and shared a thrilling quarter-final in which they were separated by just won point, with 67 scored in total, and the experienced gained in that league and the Premiership is set to serve them both well for their next challenge.
Former Wales flanker James Davies, head of the Scarlets recruitment and operations, said the pair had impressed in pre-season.
On Shenton, he said: “Iwan is a player who stood out in BUCS and has really impressed us in training with the senior group.
“He is a player with a lot of potential and we are looking forward to seeing how he develops within the squad over the course of the coming season.”
On Evans, he added: “Griff played a couple of games with our development side last season and impressed us.
“He has shown a great attitude training alongside the senior players in the squad this summer.”
