PRO14 final to be hosted by Glasgow

Could the PRO14 be set to break its attendance record for a fifth-straight final?

Following on from May’s record attendance set at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, this season’s PRO14 final will be played at Glasgow’s Celtic Park.
The home of Celtic Football Club, the occasion will mark the first time the league’s climax has been held outside of a purpose-built rugby stadium.
The 60,832-seater stadium will be the second Scottish ground to host the showpiece event in the past three seasons, after Connacht capped their memorable 2015/16 campaign with victory at Murrayfield.
Taking the PRO14 final to the 49-time champions of Scotland, league chief executive Martin Anayi admitted the board were compelled by the bid lodged jointly by Scottish Rugby, Celtic Park and the City of Glasgow authority.
Anayi said: “Bringing our final to a world-famous stadium like Celtic Park is a truly historic step in the evolution of the Guinness PRO14.
“The bid put forward by Scottish Rugby, Celtic FC and the City of Glasgow was compelling from the very beginning and we’re certain that fans across the Guinness PRO14 will share in our excitement. Glasgow has so much to offer in terms of hospitality, culture and heritage and like our previous Finals in Dublin, Edinburgh and Belfast we can offer fans so much more than just a rugby experience.
“In the past number of seasons we have made many bold decisions which have transformed the Guinness PRO14 for the better and the choice of Celtic Park as the venue for the 2019 Final is yet another signal of our ambition to provide the best club rugby tournament possible for our clubs and our fans.”

PRO14 final attendances over the past four seasons:

2018: Aviva Stadium, Dublin – 46,092 (record)
2017: Aviva Stadium, Dublin – 45,556 (record)
2016: BT Murrayfield, Edinburgh – 34,500 (record)
2015: Kingspan Stadium, Belfast – 17,500 (sell out)
